High growth manufacturing company ProMetNI Ltd benefits from OPTIMAL business growth mentoring support

The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Alderman Stephen Ross has visited the production facility of new construction supply chain manufacturer ProMetNI in Ballyclare to hear about how the family-run company has achieved rapid expansion in its first year of trading.

The business, which currently employs 4 local members of staff, specialises in providing metal roofing products for industrial, agricultural, and commercial buildings and boasts a number of highly renowned fit-out contractors from all over Northern Ireland and into the Republic of Ireland as its clients.

Some of the high profile industrial buildings that have been supplied with ProMetNI building products, (namely flashings, gutters, roofing profiles and fascia), include the Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry, local SPAR retail units, the new Newtownabbey Crematorium, Dogs Trust and some large agricultural buildings to name a few.

Founded by husband and wife team Scot and Helen Nelson, the business has recently benefited from expert mentoring provided by the funded OPTIMAL business growth support programme and an investment in skills.

Scot Nelson, Co-Founder and Operations Director, said: “I have worked in the metal fabrication sector for over two decades, I always had the ambition to work for myself and recently upskilled adding welding to my portfolio in order to develop that side of our business. I’m proud that ProMetNI professional metal fabricators have been welcomed by so many roofing contractors into their supply chain with such good feedback for our services. To be involved in so many flagship construction projects within Northern Ireland is confirmation of the quality of our workforce and high standard of product.”

Helen Nelson, Co-Founder and Managing Director of ProMetNI, added: “With customer service and client satisfaction at the core of our company, we aim not only to supply but to become part of our customers team – delivering a high quality service for a high quality product. With our remarkable achievement in sales and growth in demand for our metal flashings, barge, gutters and roofing profiles we are committed to continuing to work towards international recognition standards to make our products more attractive to contractors outside of Northern Ireland. The OPTIMAL mentoring support gave me the confidence to proceed right from business plan to securing premises, equipment and implementing business policies and procedures. It really was an invaluable service that made starting out in business much easier.”

Commenting on his visit and congratulating the local couple on the success of their new business the Mayor said: “I was delighted to visit the family-run business, despite the challenging economic climate, ProMetNI has thrived since its launch just last year. The company participated in Council’s OPTIMAL business support programme, which has given this couple the encouragement to start and has partly attributed to their growth. It was great to see first-hand their business operations, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for this impressive company.”

OPTIMAL Programme Manager, Colleen McAreavey of Mallusk Enterprise Park, which manages the funded programme in partnership with Antrim Enterprise and LedCom added: “We are delighted with the progress that ProMetNI has made whilst being supported on the OPTIMAL business growth programme. They have made great strides; in strategising for the business, marketing and PR, recruiting staff and increasing their sales turnover. The OPTIMAL programme has been a fantastic mechanism in offering expert mentoring support funded by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund under the Investment for Growth & Jobs Northern Ireland (2014-2020) Programme.”
